W.S. Merwin Named Poet Laureate
Librarian of Congress James H. Billington today announced the appointment of W.S. Merwin as the Library's 17th Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry for 2010-2011.

Poet Laureate Shares Creative Process Virtually
On April 1, Kay Ryan, the 16th Poet Laureate of the United States, offers a peek into the creative process during a videoconference with community college students. The videoconference will be streamed live on the Library's Web site.

"It's Never Too Late for Love" Poetry Reading At Library of Congress on March 12
The snowstorms in February may have derailed the Library of Congress salute to Valentine's Day and the annual "Love Poems" reading—but it's never too late for love poems. Poets Heddy Reid and Margaret Mackinnon will read their poems and those by other poets at noon on Friday, March 12, in the Mary Pickford Theater on the third floor of the James Madison Building.

Two Prize-Winning Poets to Read at Library of Congress on Nov. 12
A National Book Critics Circle Award finalist (2003) and a MacArthur fellow (2000) will read their poems at the Library of Congress on Nov. 12. Tony Hoagland, from Houston, Texas, and Lucia Perillo, from Olympia, Wash., will read at 6:45 p.m. in the Montpelier Room on the sixth floor of the James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C.

Poet Laureate Kay Ryan Will Launch Community College Poetry Project at Library of Congress Reading on Oct. 21
Program begins at 7 p.m. in the Coolidge Auditorium, Jefferson Building, 10 First Street, SE, Washington, DC 20540. The event is free and tickets are not required.
